
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said officers were called to Ventura Boulevard at around 05:30 local time on Thursday after reports of a man walking in the street wearing only underwear.
According to police, the Old Town Road hitmaker allegedly charged at officers when they arrived. He was arrested on suspicion of battery and later taken to a hospital for treatment for a possible overdose. The BBC has contacted his representatives for comment.
Footage published by TMZ appears to show the rapper dancing in the street in underwear and cowboy boots, encouraging passersby to “come to the party.” The video has not been independently verified.
The 25-year-old star, born Montero Lamar Hill, is expected to release his second studio album, Dreamboy, later this year, having teased new tracks on Instagram.
Lil Nas X rose to global fame in 2019 with Old Town Road, which earned him two Grammy Awards, broke the Billboard Hot 100 record with 17 weeks at No. 1, and made him the first openly gay man to win a Country Music Association award.
Throughout his career, the rapper has faced criticism from conservative groups in the U.S., particularly over the provocative video for his hit single Montero (Call Me By Your Name). He responded with humor and defiance, once joking that his critics’ tears could “fill my Grammy cup.”
