Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has led a top level security delegation to the Savannah Region following recent communal clashes that claimed several lives.

In a statement, the Ghana Police Service said the delegation from the National Police Headquarters will hold engagements with chiefs, opinion leaders, and community representatives to explore measures for restoring peace.

The Service explained that the visit is part of ongoing efforts to boost security in Sawla, Gbiniyiri, Giniri, and other affected areas.

“We call on all parties to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel to ensure lasting peace in the region,” the statement added.

The clashes, which broke out on Sunday, August 24, at Gbiniyiri over a land dispute, resulted in at least five deaths and left six people injured, three of whom are in critical condition.

Security reinforcements, including the Ghana Armed Forces and other agencies, have already been deployed to help stabilize the situation.
