Bukayo Saka is expected to miss Arsenal’s clash with Liverpool on Sunday as well as England’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia next month after picking up a hamstring injury.
The 23-year old forward was forced off during Saturday’s home win over Leeds United, and initial assessments suggest he could be sidelined for up to four weeks.
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is also a doubt for the trip to Anfield after suffering a shoulder injury in the same match. The Norway international was substituted in the first half of the 5-0 victory and later left the Emirates Stadium with his arm in a sling.
Although Odegaard has not yet been ruled out, Arsenal remain hopeful that both he and Saka will avoid long-term absences. This is especially reassuring in Saka’s case, given he missed three months last season with a similar hamstring problem.
The Gunners are better equipped to handle such setbacks this season, having strengthened their attack with Viktor Gyökeres, Noni Madueke, and Eberechi Eze. Manager Mikel Arteta can also call on Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, Ethan Nwaneri, and Max Dowman to cover for the duo if needed.
