Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been granted bail after appearing before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

He was released on bail set at GH¢1 million with two sureties, which he has successfully fulfilled.

Wontumi is expected to face three mining related charges on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the High Court in Accra.

His appearance at the CID on Monday, October 6, 2025, followed an ultimatum issued by the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, who had warned last Friday that the NPP regional chairman would be arrested if he failed to present himself to the police.

Wontumi’s lead counsel, Andy Appiah Kubi, told journalists that his client was willing to cooperate fully with investigators but cautioned against any attempt to revoke his existing police enquiry bail, describing such an action as one that would be “vigorously resisted.”
