FIFA President Gianni Infantino has praised Ghanaian football fans for their unmatched passion, colour, and energy on the global stage.
In a video message following the Black Stars’ 1–0 victory over Comoros in Accra on Sunday, which secured Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, Infantino expressed excitement over the team’s return to the world’s biggest football tournament.
“Congratulations to the Black Stars on reaching the FIFA World Cup for the fifth time in history,” Infantino said. “Your fans will bring colour, style, and passion to the greatest FIFA World Cup ever in 2026.”
He commended both the players and their supporters, describing the qualification as a defining moment for Ghana and Africa. Infantino also highlighted the distinctive vibrancy Ghanaian fans bring to global football, noting that their enthusiasm has always added to the World Cup’s electric atmosphere.
The FIFA President said the world eagerly anticipates seeing that same Ghanaian spirit come alive once again in North America. He expressed confidence that the Black Stars have what it takes to replicate their historic 2010 quarter-final run in South Africa, when Ghana became only the third African nation to reach that stage of the tournament.
“We expect your team to produce more global stars who will follow in the footsteps of the legendary side that reached the 2010 quarter-finals,” he added. “For now, enjoy this special moment. We can’t wait to see who the Black Stars will face when the final tournament draw takes place on December 5. Congratulations once again. See you all soon.”
Ghana’s qualification marks their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup since debuting in 2006. The four-time African champions will now focus on preparations ahead of the 2026 tournament, with the group stage draw scheduled for December 5.
