The Ghana Education Service (GES) has acknowledged that the 2025 WASSCE results genuinely reflect the abilities of the students who sat for the examinations.
This comes amid a nationwide debate over the significant drop in performance this year.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express Business Edition on Monday, December 1, Daniel Fenyi of the GES Public Relations Unit stated that the Service fully supports WAEC’s position on the outcome of the exams.
According to him, GES personnel are deeply involved in the examination process, and therefore, the results accurately portray the true performance of the candidates.
“Indeed, we perfectly agree and not just agree, because we work closely with WAEC,” he said.
He explained that the candidates are GES students, while most invigilators and supervisors are GES staff, making collaboration between the two institutions essential.
“We monitor, we supervise, we collaborate with them to conduct these examinations,” he added.
Mr. Fenyi stressed that the grades released are a true representation of the students’ competency levels.
“And so it is not merely a matter of agreement; that is the reality. The results you see are a true reflection of the competencies of our learners,” he emphasised.
However, he admitted that the outcome is troubling for the education sector.
“Even though it is worrying I mean, it is concerning,” he said.
He noted that teachers dedicate years to preparing students and do not expect such disappointing results.
“You wouldn’t train your learners for three good years, taking them through all the lessons, teaching them, exposing them to every necessary book and content, only for them to produce these results.”
He described the development as alarming for anyone who is concerned about the future of young people.
