The Acting Director-General of the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), Divine Selase Agbeti, has urged Ghanaians to stay alert online during the festive season, cautioning that cybercriminals remain active even during holidays.
In a seasonal message, Mr Agbeti noted that the Christmas and New Year period typically sees a surge in online activity, which creates more opportunities for cybercriminals to target unsuspecting individuals through scams, phishing attacks, and other cyber-related crimes.
“As we celebrate this festive season, we must remain vigilant because cybercriminals do not take holidays. Increased online activity during this period makes it important for everyone to practise good cyber hygiene to protect themselves and their loved ones,” he said.
He advised the public to carefully verify links before clicking on them, shop only on trusted online platforms, avoid sharing excessive personal information on social media, and remain cautious when engaging with people met online, as some may have fraudulent intentions.
Mr Agbeti also encouraged individuals to promptly report suspected cyber incidents through the appropriate channels to allow for quick response and effective mitigation.
He called on all Ghanaians to act responsibly online throughout the celebrations, stressing the need for collective efforts to maintain a safe digital space.
“Together, let us enjoy a Christmas free from cyber threats,” he added.
