The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF) has announced its intention to take legal action against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA following the stoppage in play during the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to the federation, the incident disrupted the momentum and concentration of players of the Atlas Lions during the final.

In an official statement, the RMFF explained that the events unfolded on Sunday evening after the referee awarded a penalty to Morocco a decision the federation said was subsequently endorsed by a panel of refereeing experts.

The federation criticised Senegal’s decision to leave the pitch, stating that the action negatively affected the rhythm of the game and had an adverse impact on player performance.

“The Royal Moroccan Football Federation announces that it will take legal action with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) regarding the withdrawal of the Senegal national team from the final match against the Moroccan national team, and the incidents that accompanied it, following the referee’s decision to award a valid penalty unanimously agreed upon by the officials,” the statement said.

It added that the events significantly affected the normal flow of the match as well as the morale of the players.

The RMFF also expressed appreciation to Moroccan supporters for their unwavering support throughout the tournament, praising their massive turnout and exemplary conduct during the national team’s matches.

Additionally, the federation extended gratitude to all individuals and institutions that contributed to the successful organisation of the continental championship
