President John Dramani Mahama has commended Ghana’s economic performance over the past year, describing the country as a “poster boy” for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

Speaking on the state of the economy at the 23rd Anniversary and Thanksgiving Service of First Sky Construction Company on Sunday, January 25, President Mahama said the speed of Ghana’s economic turnaround has taken many by surprise, including officials of the IMF and the World Bank.

“We are all surprised and shocked at the quick turnaround. Anytime I meet IMF and World Bank officials, they themselves cannot believe what has happened in Ghana. Ghana has now become the poster boy of the IMF and the World Bank,” he stated.

The President noted that Ghana’s recovery under his administration has gained significant international recognition, with major global financial institutions now citing the country as a model of economic reform and stability.

He added that the progress achieved within the last year has also attracted admiration from other African nations, many of which are now closely studying Ghana’s policy decisions and reform strategies.

“When you go to other African countries, they say, ‘Don’t you see Ghana? Don’t you see what Ghana has done?’ And that is why I say it is by the grace of God,” he said.

President Mahama further explained that the renewed confidence from the IMF and the World Bank reflects the effectiveness of his government’s economic management, fiscal discipline, and commitment to growth and structural reforms. He admitted that he did not expect the turnaround to happen so quickly.

“In my own imagination, I thought we would need about two years to begin to see a turnaround. But Ebenezer, this is how far God has brought us,” he added.
