Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has criticised the Mahama-led administration, nine months into its tenure, claiming that the government’s “failures” are creating an opportunity for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reclaim power in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking at the commissioning of a new Bantama constituency office, spearheaded by MP Francis Asenso-Boakye, Akufo-Addo pointed to what he described as the strong record of governance under himself and former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

“You saw the great works under me and Ex-President Kufuor. We did a lot, and these will form the foundation of our campaign to reclaim power. You are witnesses to what is happening under this current administration things aren’t going well,” he told supporters.

NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong also addressed the gathering, stating that many Ghanaians who refused to vote in the last elections now regret their decision. He urged the party to correct its internal mistakes before the 2026 flagbearer election and unite for a vigorous campaign ahead of the national polls.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor advised aspirants to avoid divisive language, stressing that political rivalry must not undermine party unity. “The aspirants should be mindful of what they say and ensure their supporters avoid insults. Let’s lead by example,” he cautioned, reminding members that political service must ultimately serve the nation.

The commissioning brought together party executives, traditional leaders, and members of the NPP Loyal Ladies, who hailed the new office as a “symbol of unity, grassroots empowerment, and effective party organization.”
