Hugo Ekitike scored against his former club as Liverpool ended their losing streak in emphatic fashion, coming from behind to thrash Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.
After opening the season with seven straight wins across all competitions, the Reds had stumbled badly, suffering four consecutive defeats including a painful loss to Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
Their poor run looked set to continue in Germany when former Leeds defender Rasmus Kristensen put Frankfurt ahead early on.
However, Liverpool roared back, with Ekitike starting alongside British-record signing Alexander Isak for the first time — levelling the score 10 minutes before half-time. The forward latched onto an excellent long pass from Andy Robertson and coolly slotted past the goalkeeper.
Just minutes later, Virgil van Dijk put Liverpool in front with a towering header from a corner, before Ibrahima Konaté made it 3–1 with another header moments before the break.
The Ekitike–Isak partnership was short-lived, as the former Newcastle striker did not return for the second half.
By then, Liverpool were firmly in control, but they pushed on to make sure of an emphatic victory. Cody Gakpo added a fourth, finishing off a neat pass from Florian Wirtz, before Dominik Szoboszlai sealed the win with a thunderous long-range strike.
It was a dominant performance from Jürgen Klopp’s side, who not only ended their losing run but did so with style and conviction.
