The Adenta Circuit Court has remanded a 30-year-old laundry attendant, Ahmed Hassan Abdul Razzaq, into police custody for allegedly publishing false information likely to cause fear and panic.
Razzaq is accused of posting a video on his TikTok account, @breakingnewsghana, in which he claimed that two military officers were planning to assassinate President John Dramani Mahama.
The court, presided over at Adenta, did not take his plea and ordered that he remain in custody until his next court appearance on February 9, 2026. The prosecution is being led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, with the Ghana Police Service listed as the complainant.
According to the prosecution, on January 20, 2026, Razzaq published a video identifying Sergeant Amoh and Sergeant Joseph as the alleged perpetrators of the supposed assassination plot. He was arrested the following day at Adjiringanor in the Greater Accra Region.
In his caution statement to police, Razzaq admitted making the video but stated that he had never met the officers and did not know them personally. He explained that he acted after coming across a social media post that made similar claims.
However, investigators say he was unable to provide the source of the alleged post that informed his publication.
