Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has conferred diplomatic passports on five distinguished citizens in recognition of their international impact and efforts in promoting the country’s image abroad.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, September 17, during the launch of the 2025 Diaspora Summit in Accra, jointly organised by the Office of the President – Diaspora Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The honourees are travel vlogger Wode Maya (Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon), Grammy-nominated reggae musician Rocky Dawuni, broadcaster and entrepreneur Anita Erskine, contemporary artist Ibrahim Mahama, and British-Ghanaian entrepreneur Dentaa Amoateng MBE.
Mr. Ablakwa noted that the recognition was granted under the authority of NLCD 155, explaining that the recipients had consistently raised Ghana’s profile on the global stage. “Congratulations; keep bringing Ghana renown,” he wrote in a Facebook post announcing the initiative.
Each awardee has excelled in their respective field. Wode Maya has become one of Africa’s most prominent YouTubers, spotlighting the continent’s destinations and entrepreneurs. Rocky Dawuni has earned global acclaim as both a musician and activist, serving as a cultural voice for peace and environmental causes. Anita Erskine is celebrated for her broadcasting career and her advocacy for women’s empowerment, while Ibrahim Mahama has gained international recognition for his large-scale visual art projects. Dentaa Amoateng, founder of the GUBA Awards and GUBA Enterprise, has been pivotal in strengthening ties between Ghana and its diaspora.
