Nigerian music producer and executive Don Jazzy has revealed that he nearly quit music and moved abroad after the sudden collapse of Mo’Hits Records, the label he co-founded with D’banj, in 2012. The breakup, caused by disagreements between the duo, left him uncertain about his future in the music industry.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Don Jazzy shared that encouragement from friends inspired him to stay in Nigeria and start afresh a decision that led to the creation of Mavin Records.

“When Mo’Hits ended, I thought that was it. I almost packed up to move abroad. But friends encouraged me to stay and start again, and Mavin Records was born. Since then, I’ve learned not to let anything break me,” he said.

The Daily Post recalls that following the Mo’Hits split, Don Jazzy founded Mavin Records, which became home to some of the former Mo’Hits stars, including Wande Coal, Dr SID, and D’Prince. The label also nurtured a new generation of talent such as Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, and Di’ja.

Today, Mavin Records boasts a vibrant roster featuring global stars like Rema, Ayra Starr, Ladipoe, Crayon, Magixx, Boy Spyce, Bayanni, Johnny Drille, and DJ Big N.

In 2024, Universal Music Group acquired a majority stake in Mavin Global, marking a new chapter in the label’s international growth and solidifying its status as one of Africa’s leading music powerhouses.Nigerian music producer and executive Don Jazzy has revealed that he nearly quit music and moved abroad after the sudden collapse of Mo’Hits Records, the label he co-founded with D’banj, in 2012.
