
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as an extraordinary woman whose contributions to Ghana’s social and political landscape will remain unforgettable.
In a statement, the party paid glowing tribute to Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings, recognizing her as a pioneer of women’s empowerment whose visionary leadership through the 31st December Women’s Movement transformed the lives of countless Ghanaian women and children.
“Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings was a remarkable woman whose lifelong dedication to uplifting women and children has left an enduring legacy in Ghana’s history,” the statement noted.
The NDC further highlighted her instrumental role as one of the founding pillars of the party, stating that she helped shape its values and identity. Although political developments later led her to form another political organization, the party maintained that her contribution to its history remains deeply significant.
The statement also recalled a symbolic moment earlier this year when, on June 22, 2025. an important anniversary for the NDC—the party publicly reinstated Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings as the Founding Mother of the NDC.
“That recognition, given while she was still with us, reaffirmed our enduring respect and gratitude for her invaluable legacy,” the statement emphasized.
On behalf of the party, the NDC extended heartfelt condolences to the Rawlings family particularly her children and loved ones praying for comfort and strength in this difficult time.
“May the gentle soul of Mrs Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
