Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum says he is unfazed by being described as an underdog in the party’s leadership race, stressing that it is an advantage rather than a setback.
Speaking on PM Express on Joy News on September 16, the former Education Minister said he gladly embraces the tag.
“Underdog is good, and I will always accept that. In politics, being underestimated can be a strength. I know the work I’m doing on the ground, so if you underestimate me, it works in my favor,” he said.
His comments come in the wake of an August 29, 2025, Global Info Analytics poll, which placed former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the lead with 42%, Kennedy Agyapong at 36%, and Dr. Adutwum in third with 10%.
Reacting to the poll, Dr. Adutwum said his numbers reflect the fact that he has only recently entered the race.
“Ten percent is fine because we just started. I just filed my nomination. Others have been campaigning for many years Dr. Bawumia for over 16 years, and now he’s a household name. For me to begin and already be at 10% is encouraging,” he explained.
Expressing optimism, Dr. Adutwum declared that the contest is far from over.
“Now that the battle has officially begun, Ghanaians will see a new dawn a new day where what seemed impossible becomes possible. With a can do spirit and determination, we can lift this nation out of poverty and build a Ghana we can all be proud of,” he said.
