Parliament Session Disrupted by Singing as MPs Pay Tribute to Daddy Lumba
The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, issued a sharp reprimand during a parliamentary session on Monday, July 28, 2025, after a group of MPs broke into song while honoring the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba.
The tribute took place during proceedings in the chamber of Parliament, where several legislators took turns to mourn and celebrate the iconic Ghanaian musician, whose influence on the local and international music scene spanned decades.
Among those who delivered tributes were Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah (Ada), Dominic Nitiwul (Bimbilla), Ohene Kwame Frimpong (Asante-Akyem North), Adelaide Yaa Agyeiwaa Ntim (Nsuta-Kwamang-Beposo), Akwasi Konadu (Manhyia North), and Theresa Lardi Awuni (Okaikwei North), among others.
During his remarks, Dominic Nitiwul called for a state burial to honor the legendary artist. Before ending his statement, he revealed that a friend had asked him to sing “Ankwanoma,” one of Daddy Lumba’s beloved songs, as a tribute.
Nitiwul began singing the tune inside the chamber, and several MPs spontaneously joined in.
The emotional gesture, however, did not sit well with the First Deputy Speaker, who quickly interrupted with a stern expression and questioned the conduct, asking, “Honourable Member, what is this?”
Realizing the disruption, Nitiwul quickly apologised, saying,
“Mr. Speaker, we’re doing this out of the ordinary for an extraordinary human being. Forgive us—we are mourning the best of the best. We will never forget the name Charles Kwadwo Fosu, a.k.a. Daddy Lumba.”
