The price of petroleum products in Ghana is expected to increase significantly from Tuesday, September 16, 2025, according to the latest pricing outlook by the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC).
Projected Increases
COMAC projects petrol prices will rise between 3.66% and 5.86%, pushing the pump price to around GHS 14.17 per litre. Diesel is expected to go up by 2.12% to 4.32%, reaching about GHS 14.67 per litre, while Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) could climb 2.23% to 4.23%, retailing at roughly GHS 14 per kilogram.
Drivers of the Hike
The anticipated adjustments are largely due to the recent depreciation of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar. The cedi fell from GHS 11.20 to GHS 12.07 during the review period, a 7.76% decline, bringing its year to date loss to 14.02% one of the steepest globally, according to Bloomberg.
“The decline is primarily due to strong demand for the dollar for imports ahead of the festive season,” COMAC explained.
On the international market, prices of refined petroleum products have been trending downward petrol fell 2.52%, diesel 4.12%, and LPG 2.69%. However, COMAC noted that the cedi’s sharp depreciation has wiped out these gains, making domestic price hikes unavoidable.
