Dancehall star Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after spending nearly two days in detention.
His release followed a revision of his bail conditions, offering relief in the ongoing high-profile case linked to his acquisition of a luxury vehicle.
Shatta Wale’s manager, Samuel Atuobi Baah (Sammy Flex), confirmed to JoyNews that the initial bail of GH¢10 million was reduced to GH¢5 million, with two sureties required to be justified. Under the new terms, the musician must also report to EOCO three times a week as investigations continue.
The case forms part of an internationally coordinated probe into financial crimes. Authorities are investigating the purchase of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which EOCO believes is tied to proceeds from a US$4 million scam orchestrated by Ghanaian national Nana Kwabena Amuah, currently serving a prison sentence in the United States.
The luxury vehicle was seized during a joint operation involving EOCO, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Department of Justice (DOJ).
According to EOCO, Shatta Wale was interrogated for nearly four hours but was unable to identify the seller of the car, claiming only that he bought it from “the street.” He also failed to provide proper ownership documents, presenting instead a customs declaration form that bore Amuah’s name.
Meanwhile, fans of the musician known as the Shatta Movement gathered outside EOCO offices throughout his detention, chanting and showing solidarity.
The development has not only drawn nationwide attention but also highlighted the increasing collaboration between Ghanaian and U.S. law enforcement agencies in fighting financial crimes, sparking wider debate on celebrity wealth, accountability, and the sources of flashy lifestyles.
