Sports Minister Kofi Adams says Ghana’s quest for the 2026 FIFA World Cup goes beyond mere participation, the goal is to make a lasting impact on the global stage.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, Mr. Adams said the Black Stars are determined to recapture the spirit of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, when Ghana came close to becoming the first African team to reach the semi-finals.
“This time around, we are not going to the World Cup just to make up the numbers,” he stated. “We want to go there and make our presence felt, just as we did in South Africa in 2010. The world should feel Ghana’s presence again.”
His remarks follow the Black Stars’ emphatic 5–0 victory over the Central African Republic in Morocco a result that moved Ghana within one point of securing qualification for the global showpiece. The team’s dominant second-half performance, which produced four goals, solidified their three-point lead at the top of Group I.
The impressive win has reignited national optimism and revived memories of Ghana’s golden era in international football.
Mr. Adams stressed that this new phase of qualification reflects a renewed sense of purpose and ambition within the national team.
“Our aim is not just to qualify, but to make a strong statement at the tournament,” he said, underscoring the government’s and the team’s shared vision of restoring Ghana’s place among football’s elite.
