Police have intercepted another bus transporting a large cache of ammunition from Accra to northern Ghana at the Asankare Police barrier in the Ashanti Region.

The interception involved a Kia Grand Bird bus with registration number AK 1309–21, which was found to be carrying 1,050 rounds of AAA and BB cartridge ammunition. The vehicle was driven by Mohammed Gzali, 42, with his assistant, Mohammed Jabir, 22, and had 45 passengers on board at the time of the incident.

According to a police situational report (SITREP) sighted by Graphic Online, the bus was traveling from Accra to Tamale, with Savulegu as its final destination.

The report stated that during a routine inspection at the Asankare barrier, officers grew suspicious that the driver might be transporting prohibited items. The Divisional Commander was promptly notified and later arrived at the scene along with the Juaso District Commander and the Juaso District Crime Officer. A thorough search of the vehicle was subsequently carried out.

During the search, officers opened a sack which was found to contain 1,050 rounds of AAA and BB cartridge ammunition.

Upon questioning, the driver told police that the sack had been handed over to him by an unidentified individual as a parcel to be delivered to a person identified only as Oboye in Tamale.

Police immediately impounded the bus and seized the ammunition as exhibits. The driver and his assistant are currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.
