Arsenal are weighing up a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié, with the left-sided centre-back high on their list of priorities this summer.

The 23 year old Ecuador international has been closely monitored by Arsenal’s recruitment team, according to BBC Sport sources, and is seen as a strong candidate to bolster Mikel Arteta’s defensive options.

Hincapié, who has a €60m (£52m) release clause, is reportedly open to leaving Leverkusen before the transfer window closes. Since joining the German side in 2021, he has made 166 appearances across all competitions and was part of the squad that secured the Bundesliga and German Cup double in 2023-24.

Arsenal have already spent more than £200m on new arrivals this summer and are now focusing on outgoings, with Fábio Vieira, Reiss Nelson and Oleksandr Zinchenko among the players who could depart. Jakub Kiwior has also attracted interest, with Porto among the clubs keeping tabs on him.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have been linked with Hincapié, but sources suggest Spurs are not actively pursuing the defender.
