Italian Serie A club Fiorentina have confirmed the arrival of Ghana international Tariq Lamptey in Florence to undergo medical examinations ahead of his permanent transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion.
The club announced the development on Sunday, August 31, 2025, through a post on X (formerly Twitter), sharing photos of the 24 year old right back in Fiorentina training gear with the caption: “Medical tests for Tariq Lamptey.”
Fiorentina are understood to have reached an agreement with Brighton on a deal worth €6 million plus performance related bonuses. Lamptey is expected to sign a four-year contract once the medical is completed.
The Ghanaian defender is set to provide depth and competition for Brazilian wing-back Dodô, with his ability to operate on both flanks giving Fiorentina valuable tactical flexibility.
Lamptey joined Brighton from Chelsea in 2020 and went on to make over 100 appearances for the Seagulls. Highly regarded for his pace and attacking threat from defence, his progress in recent seasons has been disrupted by injuries. He featured just 15 times in the Premier League last season but still managed to contribute two goals and several assists.
With limited playing time at the start of the current campaign, the move to Italy offers Lamptey a fresh challenge and the opportunity to revive his career in Serie A.
On the international stage, Lamptey has been named in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad on September 4 and Mali on September 8. The Black Stars currently lead Group I and will look to his experience as they continue their push for a place at the tournament in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
