U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that his administration intends to implement a permanent pause on migration from what he referred to as “Third World Countries,” saying the measure is needed to allow the U.S. immigration system to “fully recover.”
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump also stated that he plans to end all federal benefits and subsidies for noncitizens. He further indicated that his administration will pursue denaturalisation for migrants deemed to undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any foreign national considered a public charge, security risk, or “non-compatible with Western civilisation.”
The President’s remarks followed the death of a National Guard member who was fatally shot near the White House on Thursday in what investigators describe as an ambush allegedly carried out by an Afghan national.
