Fresh details have emerged regarding the detention of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, following eyewitness accounts shared with investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni.

The incident reportedly occurred in Washington, D.C., where Mr Ofori-Atta has been residing.

Sources who spoke to Mr Awuni and were present at the scene said Mr Ofori-Atta was apprehended by officers of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, as he stepped out of the building.

The arrest is said to have taken place at the Westlight building in Washington, D.C. Eyewitnesses described the operation as targeted and deliberate.
